MSK Pulse is a monthly digest of musculoskeletal, rehabilitation and sports medicine research, filtered for clinicians working in outpatient physiotherapy.
Research that changes what you do with a patient in front of you: trials and systematic reviews establishing whether an intervention works, prognosis and recovery-trajectory studies, and guidance from bodies that set UK practice. NICE and Cochrane rank highest.
Hands and pelvic health, paediatric and adolescent populations, systemic drug trials, and research about the profession rather than about patients. Guidelines from specialty societies and qualitative work are included, but rank below primary research. A study reporting no effect ranks below an equivalent study that establishes one.
Around 45 sources are harvested each month: journal feeds, Europe PMC, professional bodies, web pages, and publisher table-of-contents alerts that arrive by email. Items are deduplicated, passed through keyword filters, then scored and tagged against the criteria above. Everything that survives is ranked rather than silently discarded.
The final selection is made by hand. Nothing appears here without being read first.
Alongside published research, the site tracks registered trials from ClinicalTrials.gov that have not yet reported — an early view of what is likely to land over the next couple of years.
Every item is tagged by body region and by clinical topic, and files itself into a standing page for that subject. Those pages accumulate: they are the place to look for everything published here on a given problem.
